Overview

Campaigns in niche therapeutic categories run into a targeting problem on Meta. The prescriber universe is small, and standard interest categories from data providers cannot confirm whether an ad reached a doctor. Further complicating matters, Canadian brands demand a solution that guarantees ads are only shown to HCPs.

The Adpharm came to Wrango to solve that problem. What followed was Wrango’s first activation of its kind on Meta in Canada: 100% verified HCPs, real engagement, and performance that outpaced every benchmark.

Results

Doctors didn’t just click. They read. 63% of HCP sessions went multipage, with engaged sessions averaging 10+ pages viewed. Paid social in pharma typically sees 50 to 70 percent bounce rates. This campaign flipped that norm. Coverage reached all ten Canadian provinces, extending well beyond major metros into New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. 11% of HCPs returned within eight weeks, a signal of sustained clinical interest.

Business Challenge

Reaching the small group of Canadian physicians who treat this condition is a precision challenge. The prescriber universe is tiny, and every impression that lands outside it is wasted spend. Meta’s targeting cannot verify professional identity, and Canada’s strict health, privacy and consent requirements ruled out digital targeting solutions built for the US market. The campaign needed a purpose-built approach that could guarantee ads reached real doctors and prove it.

The target prescribers were specialists managing a complex, low-prevalence condition, among the smallest and most specialized audiences in pharma. Most practice within academic medical centres and major hospital systems. Standard interest-based targeting has no way to reach them without generating significant waste.

Our Solution

Working closely with The Adpharm’s strategy team, Wrango built and activated two audiences within Meta, along with a measurement framework. Both audiences traced back to the brand’s specific target within Canadian HCPs. No interest targeting. No third-party proxies.

The core audience was a 100% verified physician list: a custom audience of opted-in, verified Canadian HCPs uploaded directly to Meta. From there, high-precision lookalikes let Meta’s machine learning model that prescriber list to reach a net-new audience within the top 1% of behavioural matches.

Measurement mattered just as much as targeting. End-to-end tracking captured time on site, page depth, province-level engagement, and return visits, showing not just who was reached, but how doctors engaged with the brand’s content once they arrived.

Key Takeaways

1. Specialty prescribers are fully reachable on Meta when backed by verified, first-party data, not third-party proxies or interest categories.

2. Meta’s lookalike models scale reach and impact efficiently, but only when built on a verified list of core prescribers.

3. Canadian HCP marketing doesn’t need to wait for US-style infrastructure to catch up. Intelligent, consented audience targeting works here today.

We’ve run HCP campaigns before and always wondered: are we reaching physicians or just audiences adjacent to content that we believe is interesting to them? Wrango answered that. 100% verified doctors, 5x the benchmark CTR, a fraction of the CPC, and engagement behaviour that looked nothing like generic traffic. For a brand where every prescriber counts, that precision is everything.
